A walk around historic Walthamstow showing how this unique area grew from a village into a thriving suburb, its social history and the variety of buildings that can be found where Epping Forest meets William Morris.

About the tour and guide

Come and learn about historic Walthamstow and how it grew from a village into a thriving suburb.

This walk will take you from the top of the famous 'mile long' street market past the Granada Cinema , several famous pubs, the William Morris Gallery, and the unique Warner flats through to Walthamstow Town hall and Assembly hall before ascending to Walthamstow Village.

There is much social history to discuss and interesting architecture to see in buildings that have evolved over the past centuries with many stories that should enlighten your knowledge of where Epping Forest meets William Morris from Saxon times to the 21st Century.

Guide: Christopher was born raised and educated in Waltham Forest and has seen it evolve and develop over the past 60 years. Through his many London adventures he has been fascinated by how London has changed and how it continues to do so.

He enjoys combining his passion for London with his photography, spending much of his time walking around exploring and learning both the history and changes that this great city presents and has a particular interest in railway architecture and the history of London pubs.
