About

History of the building

History of the building; and its conversion to a school:

We will have tours and opportunities for people to walk around and see our school building; together with short talks on:

· St Paul’s the School – about the school itself and Waldorf education; and

· St Paul’s the Building – about the building’s architecture & design: “then and now”;

Charles Barry’s church Gothic Revival architecture; and Rudolf Steiner’s organic/expressionist architecture for the school.

We will also have an exhibition of photographs and architectural drawings from our archive, showing:

· the unusual process of conversion and renovations which initially relied on volunteers and workshops, to carry out the building works;

· the original use of the church; and Charles Barrie’s architecture;

· compared with the Rudolf Steiner-influenced design for the school.

· and, recently approved ecological landscape design and future building proposals by Erect Architecture.
