The Old Fire Station is a vibrant community building in the heart of Stoke Newington and is home to a number of charities and not-for-profit groups and organisations that provide services for the benefit the local people of Hackney. It is also a place where local people can run and attend community classes and events, and somewhere for you to host a children’s party, family gathering or special event. It has been a community centre since 1982
This Open House event will share some of the Looking Out! project journey so far, with ways to get involved for locals new and old.
There will be opportunity to see the archive and new research, pulling the threads of new stories and histories uncovered in connection to the Old Fire Station. We encourage people with history and connection to the building to bring us your photos and memories,
and for those new to the building we hope you can be a part of our journey to make it more open and accessible through your involvement in this Heritage project.
Our Community Producer, Rebecca Sainsot will be running a drop in archiving session, and there will also be informal tours of the building.
"The Old Fire Station N16 Looking Out for our community since 1886" is being funded by Historic England’s Everyday Heritage grant programme, celebrating working class histories.
