About

Overview

When construction of the Hampstead Garden Suburb commenced in 1907, the fight for women's suffrage had already been ongoing for quite some time. This tour, led by Alice Porter of the Hampstead Garden Suburb Trust, explores the beginnings of the Suburb and highlights how the suffrage movement played a role in shaping both the social and architectural landscape of the area.

After meeting on the green outside Fellowship House, we will stop at Barnet Homestead (John Soutar, 1915) and pass through Big Wood nature reserve on the way to the Henrietta Barnett School (Edwin Lutyens, 1909; 1911) and St Jude's on the Hill (Edwin Lutyens, 1909). The tour will end at Waterlow Court (Baillie Scott, 1909), a short walk from Golder's Green Station.
