Royal Arsenal Riverside is a place of rich history, long known by its association with Woolwich’s military origins dating back to the 16th century. Now into its third decade, the masterplan has set the design principles to help write its next chapter as a new urban community.
More than 3,700 new homes, commercial workspace and network of streets and open spaces have reinvigorated this historic 15.5ha waterfront site with into a thriving and well-connected new neighbourhood. Responding to the challenging restrictions set by RB Greenwich, the conservation-led masterplan has created parameters for new buildings while responding to the pre-existing urban form and characterful heritage of the Royal Arsenal.
Now over three quarters complete, the masterplan has responded to the client's evolving brief and investment into a new station for the Elizabeth Line, culminating in the creation of an attractive, sustainable and animated neighbourhood which Londoners are able to call home.
