walk/tour
Public Works, 2006
Meet: Bromley-by-Bow station, E3 3JJ
Trace the lost river and discover the abandoned island of Channelsea, then visit the newly founded urban oasis of Abbey Gardens on this walk, talk and eat exploration of this hidden history of the tidal Lea Valley and site of London's now rapidly vanishing industrial past. Consider the opportunity to make new urban green spaces that celebrate both wild and man made environments in harmony.
Start: Bromley-by-Bow station- Circle, District and Hammersmith and City lines. Finish: Abbey Road DLR stop
This route involves steps and ramps, following a riverside footpath. No toilets enroute until the end at Abbey Gardens.
The route is mainly off-road on riverside/canalside footpaths. There is some seating midway and at the end of the walk.
This walk is inspired by the Remote London - Seeking wildness & space around Greater London website (https://www.remotelondon.com/exploring-channelsea-island/ ) and my own work as an architect, researcher and advocate of conserving/rewilding the London's urban green/blue landscape and associated industrial legacy infrastructure.
