St Alban's was built for the working class who lived in the Thornton Heath /Selhurst areas.
This group of people were indispensable for the growth of the area for many were skilled tradespeople; an area that grew due to London to Brighton (via Croydon) railway. Bricks were produced locally and were used to build homes in the area. The farmers supplied the food and milk in conjunction with the local market gardens. A well known bell foundry was 3 minutes walk away.
The church was used by the community during the second world war and continues to be used to this day for those who live and work nearby.
The focus of the Open Day will be to celebrate the role that St Alban's has played since 1891 within the community.
