The building of Worlds End Studios started life as a factory manufacturing machines for commercial baking ovens; it burned down and the remains were used as the foundations of what we know today. Two young architects found the ruined site in 1974. They wanted to create a community workspace geared toward designers, one of the first of its kind, in London.

The building that became Worlds End Studios originally stood on the site of a former factory connected to Chelsea’s flour mills, where machinery for baking ovens was made. After a fire destroyed the factory, the derelict structure remained abandoned until two architects bought it from the council in 1974 and converted it into a creative workspace. They preserved much of the original industrial structure, creating the collaborative studio complex that still exists today.
