About

History

Jessica and Eric Huntley, Guyanese -born activists, publishers and booksellers, initially resided in Windermere Road South Ealing where they co-founded Bogle L’Ouverture Publications in 1969, before moving to Coldershaw Road.
It was from here that they initially opened a bookshop in their front room. Their home becoming a vital cultural and political hub in West London, hosting ‘grounding’ sessions where renowned artists, writers and activists like Walter Rodney, Andrew Salkey and Errol Lloyd would gather.
The Huntleys, however, faced challenges from the local authorities, following complaints from the neighbours and commercial premises were found in Chignell Place in 1975.
141 Coldershaw Road is now distinguishable by the Nubian Jan Community Trust blue plaque, unveiled in 2018.
Visitors will have an opportunity to engage with the books, pieces of art and archival material and participate in building cultural records of the life and times of the Black British experience from the late 1960s
