About

Print Portal - Printmaking Workshop

Print Portal is a free, drop-in printmaking workshop that transforms The Hackney's street-facing hatch into a site of exchange between the gallery and the public realm.
Inspired by the exhibition by Kelly Frank and Laura Neis, visitors are invited to bring found paper ephemera from everyday life, tickets, receipts, newspapers, flyers, packaging and other printed materials and use them as the starting point for creating unique artworks. Through lino-cut and screen-printing processes, participants will reimagine these everyday traces, turning them into new images that reflect the stories, movements and material culture of Hackney.

Working through the gallery hatch, the workshop playfully reconfigures the relationship between inside and outside, inviting passers-by, residents, young people and visitors to engage with art-making in an accessible and informal setting. The hatch becomes a portal: a space where materials, ideas and conversations can pass between the street and the gallery.

By reusing found materials, Print Portal encourages participants to think about sustainability, collection and the hidden narratives contained within the objects we encounter every day. No previous printmaking experience is required, and all materials and guidance will be provided.

What to Bring
Visitors are encouraged to bring paper ephemera collected from their daily lives, such as tickets, receipts, newspapers, flyers, maps or packaging. Materials will also be available on site for those who wish to take part spontaneously.
