How to book
Bookings will open at midday on 19 August. You won't be able to book a ticket before then.
The Bhavan occupies part of the former West Kensington Congregational Church, built around 1882-1885 and associated with architect James Cubitt. The surviving church fabric includes a gabled buff-brick frontage, grouped lancet windows and Gothic details, giving the building a clear Victorian character. Since The Bhavan moved here in 1978, the site has been adapted for a new cultural purpose as a home for Indian arts, education and shared heritage in London.
The building now supports a wide range of cultural activity, from classes and rehearsals to talks, workshops, performances and community events. The old church section includes the Mountbatten Auditorium, a 294-seat performance space, while other rooms are used for teaching, discussion and smaller gatherings.
For Open House, visitors will be welcomed into the Library for a short introduction to the building's history and present-day use. The session will include a talk, a guided look at the space and a simple workshop activity, with time for questions. Visitors will gain an insight into how a former church building has been adapted into an active centre for Indian arts, learning and community life in London.
