About

History

Havering Museum fronts Romford's High Street, one of the first Roman roads built in England. Our building was part of Romford Brewery and takes in to it the Star Inn that was in 1799 the origins of the Brewery. Our building was built in 1903 and was part of the Brewery Reception and the Ind Coope Social Club. It has had an extensive re-make, but much of the original iron work of the building is still visible.

The museum opened on 26 May 2010 following the refurbishment of the building. The project was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Work of the Museum

Havering Museum tells the story of the people who have lived and worked in Havering. The story is told through text panels, images and objects. The museum is broken down into different themes, such as farming, trading transport, childhood, in the home and local industries. There are five special areas relating to Havering-atte-Bower, Hornchurch, Romford, Rainham and Upminster.
