St Michael's Church, Poplar Walk, Croydon, CR0 1UA
St Michael's is a Grade 1 listed building by architect J L Pearson. It was described by the poet John Betjeman as”one of Pearson’s loveliest churches” and Pevsner stated that “The interior is one of Pearson’s finest, and one of the most satisfying of its date anywhere”. There are particularly fine interior furnishings by eminent artists such as Bodley, Temple Moore and Comper.

In 1879 J L Pearson was appointed to design this Church, which was to be an Anglo-Catholic Church, reflecting the principles and aesthetics of the Oxford movement. The Church, which Pearson himself was to describe as 'a place for real worship' was dedicated on October 1st 1881 and consecrated in 1895. Fine interior fittings by leading ecclesiastical artists and furnishers were added throughout the 20th Century.
