Factory E16—also known as The Factory Project—is a fascinating example of industrial heritage being reimagined as a creative hub in London’s Royal Docks. The site originally belonged to the Tate & Lyle sugar refinery, founded in the late 19th century by Sir Henry Tate—famous for the sugar cube—and later joined by Abram Lyle in 1921.
The Factory: Opening Up will involve 3 timed walking tours and present a unique opportunity for visitors to glimpse behind the closed doors of one of the most prominent creative workspaces in the area.
Starting from the Factory Cafe, this tour will lead visitors through a series of interconnected spaces, where the work of specific creative tenants will be highlighted.
One of these spaces will be ignited by performance from East London Youth Dance Company, involving the best young dancers from all across East London aged 9-19. Penguin Media, a creative production company and a key tenant of The Factory, will “pause and play” this performance as they explain how they use lighting, sound, staging and film to bring creative work to the stage.
