Working, sleeping, playing – the City of London is home to all sorts of activities after dark. This walking tour will explore buildings and spaces, well known and lesser-known, in darkness, and will tell the history of night-time in London. We will visit places where London works, sleeps and plays at night, and over the course of two hours will even see how night time activity shifts.

London looks different and eerily beautiful in the dark. Lit by streetlight and moonlight, this tour of the northern edges of The City will tell the history of London by thinking about how it is, has been, and will be, used at night. We will move through spaces and time, dark corners to brightly lit places, noise to quiet. The tour will include a visit to Smithfield market, the streets around St Bartholomew's – London's oldest parish church – and the Charterhouse, and the Barbican.
This tour is led by a participant of Open City’s Golden Key Academy – a course training up insightful and engaging guides dedicated to explaining London and bringing its many stories to life. It is part of a wider collection of tours created by Golden Key Academy guides for the Open House Festival celebrating their conclusion of the eight month course.
