The mission of the Culture Space is to showcase, collect, preserve, teach and promote knowledge and appreciation of the rich and diverse culture of the black African and Caribbean communities in London.
We currently engage and serve participants of various ages, interests, and walks of life through educational programmes, communal and public dialogue, exhibitions, poetry, events spaces, creative co-working spaces, and other initiatives.
Culture Space will offer the following:
Culture space is a community space with options for co-working and for hiring for community events, exhibitions and cultural events.
Creative place with classes, activities, and programmes run in collaboration with community partners using our space, exhibition hall, and gallery space.
Resource space: This is a repository of resources on Somali heritage, including printed and audio-visual materials (e.g., oral history recordings) and non-fragile heritage assets that the public can safely handle.
Learning space: We will offer heritage lectures, demonstrations, workshops, readings (poetry and prose), oral history presentations, and intergenerational storytelling between older and younger using heritage as a means to cross the generational divide.
