About

Tannery Arts

Tannery Arts is a Community Benefit Society that supports both emerging and established artists by providing affordable, long-term studio spaces and fostering professional development. Founded on a collaborative and equality-based ethos, the organisation is led by artist Co-Directors Andrew Bick and Fiona Long, with all staff also practising artists. Tannery Arts runs exhibitions and commissions under Tannery Projects and works in partnership with local authorities, social housing providers, and arts organisations to connect communities with contemporary art. A member of the Artists Affordable Studios Network, Tannery has been active since 2000.

History

Built in 1905, Winchester House is a remarkable part of London’s architectural and cultural heritage. Originally serving as the headquarters for London’s expanding fleet of black cabs, the building once accommodated offices and facilities for up to 2,000 taxis.

Later, it became home to the University of Wales, traces of which still linger in the preserved interior signage.

Today, Winchester House is revitalised as a creative hub, with its grand indoor spaces transformed into studios by Tannery Arts, continuing its legacy through art and innovation.
