About

Hello, Cloth Fair: a fashion tour of Smithfield

Smithfield has been interwoven with the fashion industry ever since the first Barts Fair in 1133. It was the catwalk of the Middle Ages – a magnet for Londoners from all walks of life who got dressed up to watch the jousting.

Today, that heritage continues with fashion designer residencies at Studio Smithfield. Led by a City of London Green Badge guide and former fashion journalist, this 45-minute walking tour lifts the lid on Smithfield’s stylish history, from ancient livery companies to a 19th century fashion hub, and how those threads still run through the area today.
