Join Linda Gyamfi, a Heritage Champion for Bruce Castle Museum & Archive and a member of the Golden Key Academy, for a journey into the forgotten stories of Alexandra Palace.
Driven by a curiosity about the people, places and histories that often go untold, Linda invites participants to explore the site's overlooked connections to empire, Commonwealth histories and public memory through stories, discussion and historical sources.
Alexandra Palace is one of London's most recognisable landmarks, but beneath its familiar skyline lie remarkable stories that are often overlooked. Join me as we discover Ally Pally through a different lens, exploring its connections to empire, Commonwealth histories and public memory. Together, we will uncover the story of the Commonwealth troops who gathered here for King Edward VII's Coronation in 1902, using historic photographs and an early map of the area to bring these hidden histories to life. Along the way, we'll explore how familiar places can hold complex stories, inviting us to look again at the landscapes around us and the histories they continue to shape.
This tour will take place predominantly outdoors across Alexandra Palace and Alexandra Park.
Please be aware that the route includes hills, sloping and uneven paths, some narrow pavements, and both stepped and step-free sections.
Please wear comfortable footwear and clothing suitable for the weather. There may also be an opportunity to view a small display of historic photographs, subject to availability.
