Come walk with us through Excalibur's quiet little streets, past gardens, prefabs and hidden corners, as we explore the largest surviving estate of post-war prefab houses in the UK and uncover the fascinating story of how and why these unusual homes came to be here.
Along the way, we'll also explore the clever and innovative architecture of the prefabs, hear heartwarming stories of residents past and present, and learn about the long fight to save the estate. We'll also look at what has happened to Excalibur over the past 12 years, as uncertainty over its future has led to the gradual decline of some of these once-temporary homes, and talk about the community that continues to live here today.
The tour is led by current Excalibur residents who love living in these remarkable historic homes, giving you a chance to hear what life on the estate is really like.
We will also be joined on Saturday by prefab expert Elisabeth Blanchett, who has been photographing and documenting Excalibur for the past 26 years. Along the way, we'll look at some of Elisabeth's photographs alongside historic images from the Lewisham archives, offering a glimpse of how the estate and its community have changed over time.
Toilets will be available at St Mark's Church.
