Wildlife Garden, Blythe Hill Fields

Our regular volunteer session caring for our wildlife garden, food forest, tiny forest, pond, swales, trees and meadows. Learn about gardening, biodiversity and community action in an urban setting from the Friends group. We will be talking about our journey to create habitats, improve access, and boost climate resilience, and the impacts for the Fields' biodiversity and the local community.

Event is outdoors. There is parking on surrounding streets. There are no toilets on site.
Bench seating is available throughout the site. Site is a mix of grass, meadow and paths so please wear suitable footwear for the weather

Guided visit around new habitats, planting areas and swales, visitors can ask questions, or join our volunteering session and get hands on!
Blythe Hill Fields is an area of open land and designated SINC in the London Borough of Lewisham with panoramic views over Canary Wharf, the City, Shooter's Hill and Kent.
The Fields are also an important community recreational and leisure space for the local community.
Habitats and features include a wildlife garden, an orchard and food forest, a Miyawaki method tiny forest, a pond, shrub blocks, trees including elms and a blossom walk, meadow management, children's and adults' trim trails and play equipment, purposed designed seating, signage highlighting local history, and a new development of swales and mounds funded through the Mayor of London's Green Roots Fund.
Members of the Friends Biodiversity Group will be talking to visitors about the changes made to the Fields over the past 8 years, how this was community funded and delivered, and the benefits we are seeing accrue in terms of the area's biodiversity, community access to the Fields and park users' enjoyment.
