About

Family Day at Guildhall Art Gallery

Guildhall Art Gallery is home to the City of London’s art collection. First opened in 1886, it
was destroyed in World War II. During its rebuilding in 1988 the remains of London’s Roman
Amphitheatre were found and incorporated into the new building.

Our Open House family day includes:

• Fold Your City – Help create a large paper city to take over the Art Gallery.
• Design Lego landmarks.
• Explore the Architecture in Art trail.
• Create Roman buildings in a real Amphitheatre.
• Under 5s construction areas.
• Dig into some stories in the book corner.
• Calming colouring of London’s oldest map.
• A quiet sensory space

Want to know more about the history of the City? Hop aboard our walking bus for fun
facts and sensational stories as we wind through the local London streets.
Ask for a timetable at the front desks.

London Mithraeum Bloomberg Space

Another exciting venue to explore with family activities - the mysterious Temple of Mithras (built in 240) and a contemporary exhibition. (See separate listing for more info)

Dr Johnson's House

Explore home of Dr. Johnson, where he wrote the first comprehensive English
Dictionary. One of very few homes from 1700 that are still standing. On Family Day you can:

• Hear about the architectural history of the house.
• Dress up in 18th-century costumes.
• Try your hand at writing with a quill and ink!
• Pick up an activity sheet to guide you through the rooms.
• Browse the replica dictionaries to look up words like ‘jiggumbob’!

See separate listing for more details.
