“Change: 40 Years of SOM London” explores design as a cultural practice —one that reflects how we understand, shape, and imagine the world around us.
Celebrating four decades of SOM London’s work, the exhibition brings together projects, research and ideas from across the practice, revealing how collaboration between architects, engineers and planners can shape the future of the built environment.
Through two exclusive guided tours, visitors will explore the exhibition with members of SOM’s interdisciplinary team, gaining insight into the stories and processes behind the projects and ideas on display.
From low-carbon materials and innovative construction methods to regenerative design approaches and emerging technologies, the tour will highlight how new ways of thinking can help create more sustainable, resilient places for the future.
The exhibition is hosted within Marylebone Hall, a new flexible community space within the Marylebone Square development in Westminster. The space provides a home for cultural and community uses, supporting the area’s ongoing evolution.
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) is a global practice of architects, designers, engineers and planners, responsible for many of the world’s most innovative and enduring buildings, public spaces and urban strategies. Celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2026, SOM continues to advance design through collaboration, research and technical excellence, helping shape cities around the world.
2026 also marks 40 years of SOM in London—four decades of contributing to the evolution of the capital, the UK and Europe through projects that combine design innovation, engineering expertise and a deep understanding of place. From major urban developments to environmentally-advanced buildings, our interdisciplinary teams create places that are resilient, sustainable and designed to deliver lasting value for communities.
As a carbon-neutral practice, SOM is committed to reducing the environmental impact of the built environment, with a goal of achieving net zero operational carbon across all active projects and net zero whole life carbon across all active work by 2040.
