livery hall
Sydney Tatchell, 1925
The Hall stands on land which was bought in 1922: construction work, which was undertaken by Holland, Hannen & Cubitts, started that year and the Hall was opened on 17 June 1925. Decorated in the Arts & Crafts style, and resplendent with art and treasures, visitors will gain access to areas not normally open to the public and will be guided by real Company members.

One of the City’s historic treasures, Ironmongers’ Hall celebrated its centenary in 2025. This Grade II-listed masterpiece stands as the only Livery hall built between the wars. From its richly carved woodwork and stained glass by Reginald Bell to the ironwork of Bainbridge Reynolds, every corner reflects exceptional craftsmanship.
We are opening our doors to foster a renewed sense of belonging—welcoming local residents and visitors to connect with the Hall and City. A time when belonging is under pressure, we aim to break down barriers, share our heritage, and create a space where community, history, and participation come together.
What is unique about this walking tour is that participants will stand shoulder to shoulder with Ironmonger members of different generations, in an effort to really expose a true living history of an old institution that is more relevant today than ever.
