Manbey Pod is a charming and functional garden studio located in East London, designed by Studio Bark to provide a family amenity space, storage area, and textile studio. It was self-built by the home-owners, Peter and Joan, using Studio Bark's revolutionary U-Build construction system; manufactured off-site as a kit of parts and built by Peter and Joan in their garden.

Manbey Pod is a garden studio at the back of the owner's garden in Manbey Grove. The studio is accessible through the house and is surrounded by natural planting; a calm and green oasis in the heart of East London.
The studio was designed by Studio Bark, so that it could be built by the owners who had little prior construction experience. It was built with the flat pack construction system, U-Build, designed by Studio Bark for their project Box house, which was featured on Grand Designs: The Street in 2019.
Manbey Pod is a prime example of how U-Build can be utilised to create bespoke small spaces or tiny homes. It has also been used for cabins such as Unplugged, as well as fit-outs from offices to theatres.
The Studio Bark/ U-Build team will be on hand on the day to chat about all things sustainable building, tiny home, natural materials, and flat-pack construction.
U-Build was designed not only to make the construction process more accessible to anyone, but to offer a truly circular way of building. The timber blocks can be deconstructed after a building's useful life, and reconfigured to make something completely new.
Studio Bark is passionate about building with natural materials. Manbey Pod is clad in Western Red Cedar timber, with Birch plywood U-Build boxes which soften the interior. The studio is kept warm using sheep’s wool insulation.
