The South Wing is a design-led Victorian home, location house and creative space in Croydon, shaped by a belief that beauty, atmosphere and thoughtful detail can change how people feel. For Open House, visitors are invited inside a private residential space that explores home as stage, sanctuary and cultural invitation.
East Croydon, South Croydon
Croydon is easily accessible from Central London and the South Coast. Including the tram.
Unfortunately the house is not accessible for wheelchairs.
Visually rich private home. No planned loud noises, flashing lights or strong smells. Some narrow areas/stairs; limited seating.
The South Wing is a private home in Croydon, renovated and designed by Laura Sawyer, founder of The Detail.
The tour will share the story of the house: what it was like when Laura first found it, the renovation process, the design decisions behind the interiors, and how the space has evolved into both a home and a creative location.
Visitors will hear about the inspiration behind the design, the balance between restoration and reinvention, and the role of colour, atmosphere, objects and detail in shaping the feeling of a space.
Visitors will be invited on a guided tour of the house, followed by an informal Q&A with Laura Sawyer, founder of The Detail and designer of The South Wing.
The session will cover the renovation journey, design philosophy, creative decision-making, future plans for the house, and how The South Wing now operates as a location house and cultural space.
