Renovated by Fynn Architects, this early Victorian flat in the Barnsbury Conservation Area has been reconfigured for a young family. The previous layout left the kitchen stranded in a cramped, pokey room at the rear, so the project brings it forward into the front room and reworks the layout around how the family actually lives, adding a new WC and a nursery for the new arrival.

63C Richmond Avenue is a flat in the Barnsbury Conservation Area that has been reconfigured for a young family. The previous layout left the kitchen stranded in a cramped, pokey room at the rear, so the project brings it forward into the main front room and reworks the plan around how the family actually lives, adding a new WC and a nursery for the new arrival.
The heart of the project is a bespoke, joinery-led approach in which built-in cabinetry does the heavy lifting. The kitchen in particular is designed to disappear: treated as a piece of furniture in the living space rather than dominating it. The result is a compact period flat that gains storage, function and a sense of calm without losing its character.
