The end point is different than the start point. The tour starts at Hoxton Station and ends near Homerton Station.
Hackney's housing tells a story of changing ideas about how communities should live together. From early twentieth-century municipal housing to contemporary regeneration, each generation has reflected different ambitions for urban life.
This guided walking tour explores four significant housing developments: Keeling House, Lennox House, Nisbet House, and Chowdhury Walk. Together, they illustrate how architects, planners, local authorities and residents have shaped Hackney's built environment over the past century.
Along the route, we will discuss the social and political context in which these schemes were developed, the architectural ideas that informed their design, and how they responded to issues such as public health, community life and changing patterns of housing need.
The tour invites participants to look beyond the buildings themselves and consider the wider relationship between architecture, policy and everyday life.
Duration: approximately 100 minutes.
The tour will take place entirely outdoors.
