About ETAT at the Thamesbank Centre

The Thamesbank Centre was built at the same time as the creation of the charity Encouragement Through the Arts and Talking (ETAT). Since it's opening in 2010, the Thamesbank Centre has been the home of ETAT, a place where people come together every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the year. ETAT uses the hall as a creative community space where adults can take part in visual arts, creative writing, gentle exercise, social activities and shared meals, helping to reduce loneliness and build lasting friendships.

This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see the Thamesbank Centre in use as a vibrant creative hub. Alongside the exhibition, visitors can explore how art, conversation and community can reshape an everyday hall into a place of belonging. The event also includes the premiere of a participant-made silent film, created and filmed in Pimlico, celebrating the people, places and humour of the local area.

A Grade II listed building that is home to the NAO, the UK’s independent public spending watchdog. We support Parliament in holding government to account and help improve public services. First opened in 1939 by Imperial Airways, subsequently BOAC and then British Airways, as an airport terminal. The NAO acquired the building in 1984, with the official opening in November 1986 - 40 years ago!

Lillington Gardens Estate

Lillington Gardens in Pimlico, Westminster, was built from 1961 to 1971 by Darbourne & Darke. It set a new standard in high-density public housing with medium-rise structures and private gardens. Blending well with nearby Victorian surroundings, the modernist design won multiple awards and was praised by Nikolaus Pevsner as 'the most interesting recent housing in inner London'.

St James the Less Church

One of London's best Victorian churches and a key building in the history of the Gothic Revival. Polychromatic brickwork, with interior art work by G.F. Watts and Thomas Earp, and stained glass windows and painted ceiling by Clayton and Bell. The building is Grade I listed.
