Having working in our Waterloo warehouse for many years, we were able to buy the building and begin a refurbishment for our architecture studio and home building project. As a land-locked site, the new build was structured around the roof planting and the lateral stability of the building. We call it the Green House - for its greenery, green zinc roof and the handmade green sinks by potter Chris Prindl. Much of our time in the house is spent in the kitchen and garden so emphasis was placed on making a stair we'd want to use - the raw steel sheet reflects the former life of the building as a light engineering works, probably associated with the arrival in the area of Waterloo Station and the Valentine Place Bakery. The garden is currently out-growing its space and this autumn we'll be cutting back trees that have been too successful.
